Description
Flowers have been a loved subject for artists for centuries. The subject of florals can tell stories, express emotion, symbolize meaning, depict cultural style and significance.
This in person 6 week course will give you new approaches and techniques to floral painting. Intuitive painting allows for personal expression.
Acrylics are a modern medium and students will learn the expansive qualities they offer to excite and gain enthusiasm and joy for painting.
About the Artist
Peri Pfenninger was born in New York and relocated to Connecticut in 2013. She received her Fine Arts degree at the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, N.Y. in 1989, and completed her MFA with Western Connecticut State University, in Danbury, CT.
Her recent oil paintings depict abstract portraits of nature. She is currently painting a second oil portrait for the New York Supreme courthouse in Brooklyn, NY. Her exhibits include the Blue Mountain gallery in Chelsea, NYC and is currently exhibiting at the Milford Arts Council where one of her works received an honorable mention December 2024.

Note: For the first few classes the canvas will not be needed.

- 9 x 12 or 11 x 14 Strathmore 400-500 mixed media pads (Acrylic sketch pads, canvas pads are options)
- Pencils, optional derwent ; faber castell, 2-3 different hard and soft
- Acrylic paint set Options: Marie’s fine acrylic set; Golden’s; Lukas (note: Acrylic paints can vary in cost, a set may be most inexpensive) Instructor prefers Golden’s acrylics but a student set is fine.
- A variety of synthetic brushes for acrylic painting, ‘sets’ can save on cost’ Large-1-2 inch, small, medium, filberts, flats, rounds.
- Plastic white plates, or acrylic palette paper
- Container for water
- Acrylic Matte Medium Optional: Students may wish to purchase further mediums along the way but not required..
- Desired canvas sizes ( recommended, no smaller than 12x12, no larger than 16x20, or square is fine)
